 Nicolas Pedraza

Location: Tampa, Florida

Hello, my name is Nicolas Pedraza, and I am an aspiring information professional specializing in data science and analytics. I am currently based in Tampa, Florida, and pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Information Science (BSIS). My passion lies in leveraging data to create meaningful insights that can help businesses make better decisions and improve processes. Being bilingual in English and Spanish, I am eager to apply my skills in diverse environments, bringing a unique perspective to every project I undertake.

Areas of Interest

My primary areas of interest include data analysis, predictive analytics, and data visualization. I enjoy working with large datasets to uncover patterns and trends that can drive strategic business decisions. Predictive analytics is especially exciting to me because it enables organizations to anticipate future outcomes and stay ahead of the competition. In addition to data analysis, I am interested in the impact of data on sustainability and energy management, which ties into my research on Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. Another area in which I am very interested is robotics, I believe robotics could bring all humans together, as each robot being manufactured and connected into one cloud could teach humans how to work with one another despite their differences.

Academic Experience

Throughout my studies in the BSIS program, I have taken various courses that have helped shape my skills and knowledge. In my Information Literacy (LIS2005) course, I learned how to evaluate and apply reliable information sources in academic and professional contexts, enhancing my research and critical thinking abilities. The program has also introduced me to the fundamentals of database management, information architecture, and data mining. These topics provided me with the foundational knowledge needed to understand how information is organized, stored, and retrieved in modern digital environments. Another course I’ve taken is  Intro Data/Text Mining            (LIS4761) in this course I learned how to manipulate data, during my final project I worked with the Spotify database to figure out what similarities the top songs have and what traits make a song popular.

Skills and Tools

Through my academic journey, I have developed proficiency in several tools and technologies. I have experience using Python and R for data analysis and statistical modeling, as well as SQL for database management. Additionally, I am skilled in data visualization tools like Tableau, which allow me to present data in an accessible and compelling format. My exposure to Excel and other Microsoft Office tools has further refined my ability to handle data sets and automate repetitive tasks, boosting efficiency. I am also familiar with predictive analytics models and how they can be applied to industries like marketing, finance, and software development.

Experience

While I am still gaining experience in the professional field, I have participated in various volunteer opportunities that have allowed me to apply my knowledge. For example, I contributed to a local nonprofit by helping them analyze their fundraising data, and identifying patterns in donor contributions that informed future fundraising. I have also been involved in group projects that simulate real-world scenarios, where I collaborated with peers to solve complex information problems using data-driven solutions.
